Two in court for assault on 60-year-old woman at a construction site
Two persons have been hauled before court for various offences including assault on a 60-year-old woman at Mamprobi in Accra.
The accused, Asafoatse Aryee Obo, 32 years and Nii Armah Wulu I, 48, both business men, were arrested on November 22, after declining several invitations by the police.
The police, in a statement said, the accused persons, went to the victim, who was constructing a building at her late father’s residence and instructed her to stop work immediately.
According to the police, the accused persons demanded an amount of GH¢10,000 as digging fee from her, although the victim had obtained the appropriate permit for the construction.
The duo then ordered workers and suppliers of building material at the construction site to run for their lives.
“During the confrontations, the victim decided to film the incident. This infuriated the suspects. Asafoatse Aryee Obo pounced on the victim, pushed her to the ground, forcibly seized her Samsung mobile phone valued at GH₵1,250.00, and smashed the phone without any provocation.
“The accused persons also demolished sections of the building under construction, leading to their arrest,” the statement explained.
The statement further said that in the process of arrest, one of the suspects Asafoatse assaulted the arresting officers, leaving one severely injured.
They have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime: to wit, unlawful exercising supervision or control of land development and preventing a developer from developing the land, unlawful exercising supervision, assault, causing unlawful damage, assault on a public officer and resisting arrest and rescue.
They have been granted bail in the sum of GH₵80,000 with two sureties and are to reappear on 16 December, 2021.
