Two Ghanaian Students Die In Tragic Car Crash In South Carolina

Two Ghanaian students studying in the United States lost their lives in a devastating car crash in Pickens County, South Carolina, the South Carolina Highway Patrol has said.

The victims are Alberta Oduraa Quartey, 23, and Abena Gyamfua, 31.

The collision involving two vehicles occurred on Sunday around 10:30 p.m., as confirmed by Lance Cpl Nick Pye.

The two students, residents of Clemson, tragically succumbed to blunt force trauma, as determined by Pickens County Coroner Kandy Kelley.

Both students were passengers in a 2006 BMW sedan travelling south on S.C. and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured persons were taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

The usage of seat belts by those involved in the accident remains unknown.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the collision, seeking to determine the cause of the incident.

Clemson University, where Quartey and Gyamfua were pursuing their studies, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss.

The university confirmed that both students were graduate students from Ghana. Quartey was pursuing her PhD in electrical engineering, while Gyamfua was enrolled in a master’s programme in education.

Clemson Vice President and Dean of Students Chris Miller expressed the university’s grief over the untimely deaths.
