The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced two ex-convicts to 34 years in prison with hard labour for separate crimes.

The 20-year-old Akwasi Agyemang was sentenced to 25 years for robbery while 23-year-old Kwabena Ofori went in for nine years for causing harm.

On August 25, 2024, Akwasi Agyemang attacked an 8-month-old pregnant teenager and allegedly raped her after stealing from her.

He broke into the victim’s residence at Feyiase, threatened her with a knife and robbed her of her belongings.

After the robbery, he raped the pregnant teenager before fleeing.

The victim then raised an alarm and Agyemang was arrested with the help of the Assemblyman for the area.

He was subsequently put before the Bekwai Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to the robbery charges.

The court then sentenced him on his own plea.

Meanwhile, the rape charge against him is still being heard by the court as the docket has been sent to the Attorney General’s office for advice.

Kwabena Ofori, on the other hand, was arrested after assaulting a driver at Beposo in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti region.

The police investigation revealed he threatened several times to harm the driver on suspicion that his younger brother was having an affair with his girlfriend.

Ofori eventually carried out the threat and brutally attacked the driver.

The victim reported the incident to the police and several attempts to arrest Ofori failed.

The police later found out that he was serving a jail term at the Kumasi Central Prison for a separate offence and was due to be released on August 27, 2024.

A warrant was issued to the prison authorities which led to his arrest on the day of his release.

He pleaded guilty to all charges and the court sentenced him on his plea.
