Two persons have died in a multi-vehicle accident at Akuni No 2 along the Adukrom-Somanya highway in the Eastern Region.
The deceased, all women, included a sports teacher and national service personnel from the Yilo Krobo Senior High School.
Their Toyota Corolla, with registration number GR 901-21, collided head-on with a pickup truck with registration number GV 1263-20 on Sunday, May 19.
The pickup truck belongs to the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly.
According to sources, the driver of the pickup truck allegedly engaged in a wrong overtaking in a curve, leading to the fatal collision that killed the two on the spot.
Another individual who sustained a life-threatening injury is in critical condition at the Yilo Krobo Government Hospital in Somanya.
Meanwhile, two occupants of a third vehicle, registered GR 459-21, who were involved in the accident, miraculously escaped unhurt.

The bodies have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue as police mount a search for the driver of the pickup truck involved in the accident.
This comes after a car ran over five persons at the Abrepo Junction traffic light in Kumasi, killing a female community police assistant.
The deceased, only identified as Tina, was directing traffic with another police officer due to the malfunctioning traffic lights at Abrepo junction.
According to eyewitnesses, the private car with registration number GS 9494-21 experienced a brake failure, causing it to lose control and run into them and the other victims.
In a CCTV footage of the harrowing incident, the deceased could be seen thrown in the air as the speeding vehicle ploughed into her.
The other victims who sustained various degrees of injury included a medicine seller who is currently in critical condition.
Meanwhile, authorities have seized the car, and the driver has been detained for questioning as part of the investigative process.
