Two Chinese nationals arrested for galamsey in Tano Anwia Forest Reserve
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has arrested two Chinese individuals for their involvement in illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey.
The suspects were apprehended mining within the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve located in the Jomoro district of the Western North Region.
The arrest occurred on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, as part of a targeted operation conducted by the task force aimed at curbing illegal mining operations in the region.
As reported by NAIMOS, numerous items were confiscated and subsequently destroyed during this operation.
These items included a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 with the registration number GR 442-14, four excavators, and two large water pumping machines.
Furthermore, 12 temporary structures believed to have been utilised by the miners were also demolished.

This operation is part of the government’s ongoing initiatives to safeguard the nation’s forest reserves and water bodies from the detrimental impacts of illegal mining activities.
The detained individuals are presently in custody and are cooperating with the ongoing investigations.
