Two vehicles have been burnt beyond repair in an accident at Gomoa Dominase in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The accident which occurred on Thursday afternoon, involved a Toyota V8 Land Cruiser and a Benz.
Information gathered indicates that the Toyota Land Cruiser caught fire after colliding with the four-wheel drive Benz at Dominase Onion Market on the Kasoa – Cape Coast Highway, while the other car also got burnt on the Gomoa Dominase Junction to Dominase township Road.
Occupants of the vehicle, however, escaped unhurt.
With the intervention of the Winneba Municipal fire officers led by Anthony Nyarko, the fire was doused, but there was nothing for the occupants to salvage.
In an interview, the owner of one of the cars, Ato Yawson, said he also lost Ghc 4,000.
Meanwhile, police have commenced investigations into the incident.
Road crashes between January and March 2022
Over the past months, many fatal accidents have occurred in different parts of the country, leading to the loss of hundreds of lives.
The development has sparked a national discussion about the rising spate of fatal crashes, especially on the country’s highways.
According to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), a total of three hundred and twenty-five (325) persons died in 1,177 road crashes in the Eastern region from January to October this year,
The figure represents an 8% decrease compared to the same period last year which 357 fatalities were recorded.
Statistically, Ghana recorded reductions in crashes, Injuries and Deaths from January to September 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
There was 6.09% reduction in crashes, 1.2% in injured persons, and a significant 17.08% reduction in fatality.
