Two arrested with gun, 525 rounds hidden in truck in Oti region

Two people have been arrested in the Oti Region for allegedly transporting a firearm and a large quantity of ammunition without lawful authority.

Police sources say the arrests followed intelligence received on February 7, 2026, that a Kia Rhino truck, with registration number GS 4677–17, was transporting boxes of ammunition from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.

Acting on the information, a team of intelligence officers mounted an operation along the suspected route.

On February 8, 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., the officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search.

During the search, police recovered a locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing 525 rounds of Lion AAA and BB ammunition.

The firearm and ammunition were found concealed among building materials being carried in the truck.

The driver, Abubakari Salam Atta, and his mate, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, were arrested in connection with the find.

Police say the suspects admitted ownership of the firearm and ammunition.

They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the recovered items have been secured as exhibits.
