Two arrested over alleged plot to assassinate Akyem Kwabeng chief
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two persons for allegedly conspiring to assassinate Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, the Chief of Akyem Kwabeng and Gyasehene of the Akyem Abuakwa State.
The arrests were made following intelligence received on October 11, 2025, which indicated that a scheme was being devised to eliminate the Chief prior to his first Royal Durbar scheduled for October 17 in Akyem Kwabeng.
In response to the tip-off, a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) was dispatched to infiltrate the group suspected of planning the assassination.
During a covert operation on October 12, the suspect Emelia Akua Asor, aged 47, allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to carry out the assassination of both Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II and a woman believed to be the newly appointed Queen Mother of Akyem Kwabeng.
The police report states that Emelia directed a second suspect, Butuakwa Seth, aged 48, to accompany the undercover team to Akyem Kwabeng to pinpoint the residences of the Chief and the Queen Mother.
Seth is alleged to have guided the officers to these locations and provided a photograph of the Chief to facilitate the operation.
According to police sources, the suspects promised an additional GH₵50,000 upon the successful execution of their plan.
Both suspects are presently in police custody, cooperating with ongoing investigations.
