Two men are in police custody after a targeted operation by the Western Central Regional Police Command uncovered a large cache of suspected narcotic drugs in Tarkwa.
The arrest followed nearly two months of intelligence gathering after police received information in December 2025 about alleged drug peddling activities along the Tarkwa Estate Road.
Acting on the tip-off, officers mounted discreet surveillance on the suspects, tracking their movements and alleged sales patterns within the area.
The operation reached its peak on February 5, 2026, at about 1:00 pm, when a team of officers raided a shop on Estate Road believed to be used as a front for the drug trade.
A search conducted in the presence of the suspects led to the discovery of quantities of tramadol.
During questioning, the suspects guided officers to another location near the Tarkwa Market Circle, where more suspected drugs and related items were hidden.
Items retrieved included compressed parcels and sachets of dried leaves believed to be cannabis, several boxes of tramadol and tapentadol, large quantities of cigarettes and smoking accessories, as well as crushers, lighters, electronic shisha devices and filters.
Police also retrieved GH¢2,001 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales made earlier in the day.
Preliminary investigations suggest the drugs were supplied from outside the Western Region.
Police have identified an individual known as Atanga, said to be a brother of one of the suspects and a resident of Bolgatanga, as a key supplier, and a manhunt has been launched to locate him.
The suspects, Maclean Adaboro, 44, and Kelvin Anaam, 28, are assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before the court soon.
