Two arrested for illegal possession, discharge of firearms at Bibiani
The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for unlawfully possessing and recklessly discharging firearms during a funeral in Attakrom, near Bibiani.
The arrests, made over the weekend, were part of an investigation after a viral video surfaced on social media on March 14, 2025.
This video showed the suspects firing weapons in full view of the public.
The disturbing footage quickly circulated across various platforms, depicting several young men, some in funeral attire, wielding what appeared to be pump-action shotguns and other guns.
Amid chants and loud music, they took turns firing the weapons as a show of bravado during the ceremony, alarming the community and prompting swift police action.
The Western North Regional Police confirmed the identification and arrest of the two men featured in the video.
Police tracked down the suspects through intelligence-led operations led by the Regional Investigation Team, under the guidance of the Regional Crime Officer.
The suspects are now in custody as authorities ramp up efforts to trace the origins of the firearms and identify others who may have been involved.
Preliminary reports indicate that more than two individuals participated in the reckless shooting, and the police are appealing for anyone with relevant information to assist with the investigation.
