A suspected mentally challenged woman has been crushed to death by a truck at Maakro near Suame in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
According to a report by the Suame police, the truck, fully loaded with tubers of yam started its journey from Zabzugu in the Upper East region to the Ashanti regional capital on May 7, 2023, when the accident occurred.
The report said the Kia Rhino truck upon reaching a section of the road at Maakro, knocked and killed the woman aged about 40, who was crossing the street.
“Body was conveyed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue and deposited for preservation, identification, and autopsy,” the police said in the statement.
The police also disclosed that the accident vehicle has since been impounded for testing.
Meanwhile, the driver, 33-year-old Jalaldeen Amadu is in police custody assisting in investigations.
This comes a week after a 51-year-old woman was also crushed to death by a truck at Dr. Mensah Market in Kumasi.
The truck which was carrying secondhand clothes, lost control and run into traders hawking at the market.
It reportedly failed on its brakes and crashed into a taxi cab that was parked before running over the woman who was selling by the roadside.
