Transport unions suspend protest as work resumes on Amasaman–Nsawam Road

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and various transport unions have called off their planned demonstration regarding the poor condition of the Amasaman–Nsawam road.

In a joint statement released on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the organisations revealed that their decision comes after the contractor returned to the site to resume construction work on that section of the road.

The operators, who had previously threatened to strike if immediate steps were not taken, expressed their encouragement by the government’s intervention and renewed commitment to addressing the issue.

“We commend the Government of Ghana and the relevant authorities for their timely intervention, which demonstrates a commitment to resolving the pressing challenges that affect both transport operators and commuters,” the statement read.

The transport unions reassured commuters and stakeholders of their ongoing collaboration with the government to enhance road safety and protect lives and property.

They also expressed their commitment to supporting initiatives that aim to ensure sustainable road infrastructure development throughout the country.
