Some women who sell at the Tema Station in Accra have expressed anger over an eviction notice issued to them.
The aggrieved traders said the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly is asking them to relocate.
According to the leader of the women, Mercy Larbi, despite promises of stall allocations by the Municipal Chief Executive, they have been asked to vacate the area following the completion of the stalls.
Speaking to the media, she said the stalls are being sold at exorbitant prices, leaving them with limited options to acquire the spaces.
Madam Mercy Larbi argued that it was a wetland when they were brought to the area by former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
They claim to have invested in filling the waterlogged areas with gravel, contributing to the area’s transformation over the past 30 years.
The women complained of neglect, stating they were abandoned when the area was undesirable.
Now that the location has become popular, they feel mistreated and disregarded.
They, therefore, appealed to the Member of Parliament for the area, Zenator Agyemang Rawlings, and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, to intervene and address their concerns, as their pleas over the past few years have gone unanswered.
