Tourism sector will require more than a year to rebound – GTA boss

The Tourism industry will require 18 months to rebound to the pre-COVID era, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyemang, has said.

He said the industry has been affected greatly by a coronavirus and its imposed restrictions protocols.

“I know very soon; we will be back but we are probably looking at an 18-month frame where we can come back to pre-COVID levels…it has been worrisome most of the restrictions have directly affected our industry especially with the closure of the airports and borders.” He noted

As a sustenance strategy, according to him, the authority was working to provide stimulus packages for firms in the industry.

“There have been facilities that have been made available to provide incentives to companies. The National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), we know has made disbursement to some people”

Adding that “The Ghana CARE facilities by the Finance Minister will also enable people to apply for incentives” he told 3FM

Akwasi Agyemang expressed optimism over the rebound of the sector.
