Top NDC leaders defect to NPP
In a shocking move, the Ashanti Regional Cadres Chairman of the opposition NDC, Alhaji Muntari Alhassan, has defected to the ruling NPP together with his entire executive team.
The group has also cut ties with the NDC, urging their supporters to follow suit, citing the need to secure their children’s future.
The defection, announced on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Ntonso Zongo, has sent shockwaves through the NDC’s regional support base.
Alhaji Muntari, a former NDC stalwart, revealed that their decision to join the NPP was influenced by the government’s pro-poor policies, including the Free Senior High School programme, which has benefited his own family.
The defectors have pledged to actively campaign for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s Flagbearer, to continue the party’s initiatives.
The move is seen as a significant blow to the NDC’s regional stronghold, with potential implications for the party’s national support.
Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, welcomed the defectors during his grassroots campaign in the Kwabre East constituency, hailing their decision as a testament to the NPP’s commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians.
