Tokyo Olympic Games: Team Ghana off to Japan
The team will begin a three-week preparation in the Japanese town of Inawashiro as part of plans to adequately equip the athletes to help them bring laurels back to Ghana.
A total of 4 athletes out of the 15 who are to represent the country left the Kotoka International Airport in the late hours of June 30, 2021.
The 4 athletes are Suleman Tetteh, Shakul Samir, Samuel Takyi who will represent Ghana in the boxing event and Christian Amoah in the weightlifting category.
The rest of the athletes; the men’s 4x100m relay team, two swimmers and triple jump athlete Nadia Eke, who are all based abroad, are expected to join the rest of their teammates next week.
Speaking to Citi FM/TV, the President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation, George Lamptey said the team has prepared well enough to bring back home at least a medal to show for the hard work of the athletes.
“The boys are ready and have prepared for this for a very long time. It is my prayer that their efforts will yield good results”. He said.
“We have been blessed by the President of Ghana, and the Ga Mantse and we know with their support and prayer we will make Ghana proud”. He added.
Christian Amoah, a weightlifter also highlighted that he has learnt from his previous experience in the Olympic Games and hopes to do better.
“This is my second time going for the games and the first time, I was immature so I went there for the exposure but this time, I am going all out and hopefully bring a medal back home”. He stated.
Also, the captain of the Black Bombers, Suleman Tetteh highlighted that they have had the best training and are eager to make the nation proud.
“In terms of preparations, this is the first time we have prepared this well for any major event and that why I am confident we will make the nation proud”. He stated.
“Team spirit is high and we are ready for anyone”. He concluded.
The Olympic Games will be held from Jul 23, 2021 – Sun, Aug 8, 2021.
