Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, has taken swift action against the Afetorfia of Muviefe Clan and Mankrado of Ho Bankoe Togbe Afiatsoa III, suspending him with immediate effect due to misconduct and gross insubordination.

The decision, announced on October 16, 2024, follows Togbe Afiatsoa’s repeated actions and utterances that aimed to create divisions within the Ho Bankoe community.

In a statement, Togbe Afede XIV expressed concerns over Togbe Afiatsoa’s behaviour, specifically highlighting his use of strong language against elders who disagreed with him, referring to them as “thieves”, “liars” or “corrupt.”

“The strong language you used during recent engagements with elders who disagreed with you is unacceptable and a cause for concern,” the statement read.

Additionally, Togbe Afede XIV stated that Togbe Afiatsoa’s threats and curses were deemed unacceptable.

“It is completely inappropriate to refer to people, especially elders, as “thieves,” “liars” (didritorwo), or ‘corrupt’ simply because you believe their opinions are wrong. Also unacceptable are your threats of various actions and curses you have invoked,” Togbe added.

Also, Togbe Afiatsoa reportedly was absent from the 2024 Te Za (yam festival) programmes as a result, Togbe Afede XIV has barred Togbe Afiatsoa from all chieftaincy-related activities and programs within the Ho Traditional Area and Asogli until further notice.

“Your decision to absent yourself from the 2024 Asogli Te Za programmes from Thursday, October 3, to Sunday, October 6, 2024, is highly troubling. Of even greater concern were your efforts to prevent or discourage chiefs, queens and elders of your clan from attending some of these programmes,” part of the statement read.

Togbe Afiatsoa has also been barred from representing Ho Bankoe or the Asogli State in any official capacity.

Togbe Afede XIV’s statement warned that further misconduct or insubordination would lead to more severe consequences.
