“Today should be the last time you cry in my court” – Judge warns Aisha Huang

Chinese Galamsey Queen Aisha Huang has received a stern warning from the High Court judge presiding over her galamsey trial.

At the last adjourned date, news of Aisha Huang crying during her cross-examination filled the media space.

On Monday, July 24, she again became visibly emotional and broke down in tears when confronted with the allegation that she deliberately re-entered Ghana despite her deportation.

But this time, the trial judge Lydia Osei Marfo, who appeared to have had enough of the cries, cautioned Aisha Huang against further emotional outbursts.

“Stop the interjection with the tears. It doesn’t do anything to me. The question is harmless, just answer and go. Today should be the last time you’re crying in my court. If you want to cry, cry in prison before you come to my court. If she cries again it is deliberate. So I don’t expect her to cry again,” Justice Lydia Osei Marfo said.

She stopped and the court continued with the cross-examination.

Aisha Huang is facing charges at the Accra High Court following her return to Ghana and alleged involvement in illegal mining operations (galamsey).

There are four charges against her— entering the country illegally while prohibited from entry, undertaking a mining operation without a licence, facilitating the participation of persons engaged in a mining operation, and illegally employing foreigners.

She pleaded not guilty to three charges, except entering the country illegally. She has since been convicted on the said charge.
