The student nurse who was summoned for threatening the lives of patients in a viral video has apologised for her utterances.
The Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery College student, Lubabatu Muhammed, said it wasn’t her intention to hurt anyone in the future.
In another post, she explained that she did it for fun and to entertain her followers on TikTok.
“I didn’t mean to hurt anybody in any way. I love my profession, and I never wish to hurt anyone when I’m working in the future,” she said in her native language.
The nursing student’s viral post made on 5 August to entertain her followers and increase her fan base landed her in trouble.
She was seen in the video lamenting that her family forced her into the profession and thus the threat to kill patients.
She seemed to be miming over a voiceover on TikTok, which further threatened patients to stay away from any facility she may be posted to as she may end up killing them.
“In case I have graduated, and you see me in the hospital, I mean working in the hospital, I am begging you, ladies and gentlemen, run for your life because I may kill somebody there. I may kill somebody,” she said.
But the TikTok post, which has since gone viral, has been condemned by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC).
In a press release on Monday, 15 August 2022, the council dissociated itself from the footage.
“The statement made by the alleged student nurse is a clear demonstration of ignorance about the Nursing and Midwifery profession, and therefore the public should treat it with the contempt it deserves,” it said.
Additionally, the council informed the public that investigations had commenced earnestly to identify the said student and apply the necessary sanctions as enshrined in the Code of Conduct for Nurses and Midwives.
The N&MC used the opportunity to remind nurses of section 7 (a) (h) of the Code of Professional Conduct for nurses, which charges student nurses to “uphold the reputation of your profession; Your behaviour must at all times bring credit to the profession and desist from abuse of the social media and ensure that it does not interfere with your professional practice or service provision”.
The N&MC also cautioned students against using the uniform for non-professional activities.
