Three sustain gun shot wounds as robbers attack fuel station in Somanya
Two persons are battling for their lives at the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital in Somanya after sustaining gunshot wounds during a robbery attack at the Gaso fuel station.
The sad incident occurred on Monday, 23 October, 2023.
Four robbers, including a female, attacked the fuel station and a mobile money vendor at Ogome, a suburb which is a busy area in the municipality just about 200 meters away from the SP GAS station, where a similar robbery occurred in the same horrifying modus operandi two weeks ago.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed men, with remarkable swiftness, executed their deadly mission in less than 8 minutes.
Armed with pump-action guns, they robbed the Gaso Filling station of an undisclosed amount of money.
The mobile money vendor was not spared as he reportedly lost Twenty-Eight Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢28,000) to the robbers.
The robbers fleeing the fuel station fired several rounds of ammunition, which injured a pump attendant. The robbers in an attempt to ward off residents, fired several rounds indiscriminately injuring two other people in the process.
One of the victims who was rushed to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital is said to be in critical condition while the other has been stabilised by the medical team at the facility.
The other victim who also sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Somanya Poly Clinic has since been treated and discharged.
Although the robbers were pursued by the police, the chase was unsuccessful.
This is the second robbery that has happened in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in less than two weeks.
Residents are casting doubt in their minds with regard to their safety and security, as they believe the local police lack the necessary logistics to carry out effective day and night patrols.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Eric Tetteh who confirmed the incident said that the Municipal Security Council will conduct an emergency meeting with the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Twumasi Ankra on the possible way forward.
