Three KNUST students die within eight hours

Saturday, March 27, would go down as one of the darkest days of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as three students perished in separate accidents on campus.

Two of the students died after their private car rammed into a tree in an attemp to negotiate a curve at about 3 am.

The other three students who were also in the same vehicle sustained serious injuries.

While two were rushed to the KNUST Hospital, the third had to be transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to the critical nature of the injury.

While four of the students who were in the black saloon car are reported to be students of KNUST, one is believed to be from the University of Ghana.

The impact left the front of the car mangled while the windscreen was completely shattered.

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) unit at Tech Police Station has launched an investigation into the crash.

In another incident, a level 100 student is reported to have visited a friend at the Unity Hall at about 11 am, but fell unconscious while climbing the staircase of the first floor and hit his head against the wall after toppling over.

He was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but passed on while doctors tried to save his life.

Public Relations Officer of KNUST, Dr Norris Bekoe, confirmed the deaths as he consoled the bereaved families.
