Three demands of GRNMA captured in mid-year budget – Mrs. Ofori-Ampofo
The president of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, has revealed that the government has approved three out of four demands made by the Association and has been captured in the 2025 mid-year budget.
She disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
She added that the 8% non-basic allowance has been suspended for now due to errors in its computation.
“After extensive deliberation, it was agreed that the 8% non-basic allowance, which was intended to appreciate the market premium of nurses and midwives was, the employer was emphatic that there were serious distortions which has affected the market premium of nurses and midwives and that they would take urgent steps to rectify same,” she stated.
She added that, “Fuel allowance will be paid to those who are entitled to it at government-approved rate and not at the rate of 10.99 or the ex-pump rate as contained in our collective agreement. All other items as contained in Appendix B of our collective agreement have to be costed and included in the 2026 national budget”.
She further stressed the role of the government in preventing any industrial unrest.
“The meeting agreed that the employer will write to its agencies to continue with professional development and the pin renewal, the 13th month allowance, the medical and other items contained in the collective agreement,” Mrs Ofori-Ampofo said.

“The employer is to ensure that nurses and midwives have their accumulated required CPDs are duly licensed by December 2025 to start practising legally by 1st January 2026,” she explained.
The GRNMA President also revealed that the Association has suspended its intended strike due to the effort made by the government in including their demands in the mid-year budget.
“The National Council of the Association at this point in time has taken decision to halt all intended industrial action pending the full implementation of the entirety of the collective agreement”.
“Leadership has a responsibility to follow up on the agreement between the parties and we take this opportunity to assure our dear nurses and midwives that we will do nothing less,” she added.
