Three people have been confirmed dead and several others injured, following a renewed conflict in Nkwanta, located in the Oti Region.
The clashes, which began on Wednesday, January 15, and continued into Thursday night, have left residents in fear as sporadic gunfire echoed through the area.
The situation remains tense, with unidentified individuals reportedly firing indiscriminately.
Videos circulating on social media depict loud gunshots and extensive destruction of property.
The conflict is believed to be tribal, involving a dispute between three indigenous groups: the Challa and Adele on one side and the Achodes on the other.
This has disrupted daily life in Nkwanta, with businesses closing and families retreating indoors to ensure their safety.
Meanwhile, residents have expressed concerns over the lack of immediate intervention from security forces, though it remains unclear if steps are being taken to restore calm.
The violence has caused significant unrest in the community, with calls for swift action to prevent further loss of life and property damage.
Meanwhile, the acting spokesperson of President John Mahama, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, says a combined team of police and military personnel have been deployed to restore calm at Nkwanta.
