The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has addressed concerns regarding Thomas Partey potentially losing the Black Stars captaincy.
He emphasized that the Arsenal midfielder remains focused on the team’s success.
“It’s not a problem for Thomas Partey that he’s no longer the Black Stars captain. It’s not about individual aspirations,” Asante Twum said on Sporty FM.
Partey, who previously served as the deputy captain under Andre Ayew, has chosen to step back from any leadership role within the team.
Consequently, Jordan Ayew will assume the captaincy for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, as his older brother Andre has been excluded from the squad.
Ghana will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco for a match against Madagascar on Monday.
Currently, the Black Stars sit second in Group I with nine points, tied with leaders Comoros.
