Thomas-Asante substitution after scoring latest goal down to fatigue- Coventry City Manager [VIDEO]
Coventry City FC manager Frank Lampard has stated the reason for his surprise substitution of Brandon Solomon Thomas-Asante in the club’s latest win.
The Black Stars player was replaced in the 52nd minute by Luke Woolfenden after scoring the first goal in Coventry City’s 3-0 win over Watford.
Thomas-Asante raced into the box to timely meet a cross from the right side from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and guide the ball to the right side of the net in the third minute. Sakamoto scored Coventry’s third goal in the 42nd minute in a fast Coventry start.
Scoring against Watford marks the fourth game in a row that Thomas-Asanate has scored in what has been a brilliant season so far in the 2025-2026 campaign. He has nine goals and three assists in 12 EFL Championship games.

After making the surprise substitution, Frank Lampard hinted that fatigue was largely the reason for the move,
“Yeah, yeah again a little bit of fatigue, just a swap; pleased to get Wolfy [Luke Woolfenden] his home debut to come on and play. No problem at all [with Thomas-Asante]” Lampard said to the club’s media.

Thomas-Asante was part of the Black Stars team that sealed qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Scroll down to watch video of Thomas-Asante’s goal against Watford.
