This is why the Minority has boycotted the ‘Vetting Chaos Committee’

The ad-hoc committee investigating the January 30 chaos at the Appointments Committee of Parliament has resumed duties today, February 10, but the Minority in Parliament will not participate in the exercise.

Earlier, the NPP Caucus had raised concerns about the neutrality of the committee chairman, but they were expected to honour the invitation of the committee.

In the latest twist to the back-and-forth, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has issued a memo indicating that the Minority Caucus will abstain from the committee’s activities until an intervention by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

“Pursuant to this, and given the significance of the issues raised, the Minority Caucus considers it prudent to await the Speaker’s response before taking any further steps in relation to the Committee’s work,” the memo copied to the ad-hoc committee chairman, Emmanuel Bedzrah, read.

The memorandum, issued on February 10, clarified that the Minority’s stance should not be misconstrued as an unwillingness to engage with the committee.

“We trust that the Speaker will address these concerns in a manner that upholds the integrity of the Committee’s work and the broader interests of Parliament. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to a resolution that ensures confidence in the Committee’s proceedings,” the memo, added.

A copy of the memo is provided below.
