This is scandalous – Mahama reacts to Cecilia Dapaah’s missing millions

Former President John Dramani Mahama has raised concerns over Sanitation Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s missing millions stashed in her home.

In a tweet, Mr Mahama described the act as ‘scandalous’ and criticized it as inappropriate conduct for public office holders.

His reaction comes in the wake of reports of over $1 million, €300,000, and a substantial amount of Ghana Cedis being stolen from the residence of the sector minister and her husband by their house helps.

Two of the minister’s house helps — Patience Botwe, known as Maabena, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30 — are currently facing prosecution before an Accra Circuit Court in connection with the alleged theft.

The accused persons are facing one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing, involving amounts of $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana Cedis.

The duo allegedly stole the personal belongings of Cecilia Dapaah, including clothes valued at GH¢95,000, handbags, perfumes, and jewelry valued at $95,000.

Further accusations involve Patience acting alone to steal six pieces of Kente cloth worth GH¢90,000 and six sets of men’s suits valued at $3,000, which belonged to her husband.

Meanwhile, three more persons have also been charged in connection with the said theft.

Benjamin, 29, a plumber, has been accused of dishonestly receiving GH¢180,000, while Kweku Botwe, 65, a trader, faces charges for dishonestly receiving GH¢50,000.

Additionally, Malik Dauda, 23, who is unemployed, is alleged to have dishonestly received GH¢1 million.

All five accused persons with the exception of Sarah, a breastfeeding mother, have been remanded in police custody.
