President-elect John Dramani Mahama has described his upcoming term as a defining opportunity to cement his legacy before retiring from active politics.

Speaking at his private residence in Accra on Friday, December 13, during a visit by the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, Mahama reflected on the immense responsibility tied to his new mandate.

The ambassador delivered a congratulatory message from Chinese President Xi Jinping, celebrating Mahama’s victory in the 2024 general election.

Expressing gratitude for the goodwill, Mahama emphasised the significance of Ghana’s partnership with China, which has been vital in advancing key sectors like infrastructure, agriculture, and education.

He pledged to deepen bilateral ties, ensuring mutual benefits for both nations.

“China has been a dependable partner for Ghana, and I am committed to strengthening our cooperation in ways that benefit our shared interests,” Mahama stated.

He assured Ambassador Defa that his administration would remain open and collaborative, fostering ongoing dialogue between the two countries.

Mahama reiterated his determination to focus on transformative initiatives during what he referred to as his “legacy term.”

He acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in his ability to drive meaningful change for Ghana.

“The easy part is over—the elections. Now comes the hard part: restoring Ghana to its rightful place as the black star of Africa,” Mahama said.

“This is my opportunity to leave behind a lasting legacy and make a good name for myself before retiring from politics. I assure you, I will work tirelessly to move Ghana forward.”

With a renewed focus on national development and international collaboration, Mahama vowed to deliver a term that will be remembered as a turning point in Ghana’s progress.
