‘This Is Long Overdue’ – Adongo on Majority’s Call For Ofori-Atta’s Removal
A Parliament’s Finance Committee member, Isaac Adongo, has embraced calls by some members of the Majority Caucus in Parliament to remove the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
Reacting to the development, the Bolgatanga Central MP said, “this is long overdue.”
“Both the Finance Minister and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry have been incompetent. The two have opened their businesses to the detriment of managing the state’s finances,” Mr Adongo alleged.
He also joined calls for the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mr Ernest Addison, to be dismissed.
He believes Mr Addison is equally incompetent and should step aside.
“This man has failed to come to Parliament for the past three years in violation of his own law. He was supposed to report to us every six months to update us on our forex developments, but he does not show up. And he goes around calling others for meetings. He should have resigned by now.”
“Exchange rates do not respond to meetings. They have a lot to do with the lack of liquidity in the market. The exchange rate we have now is a result of the incompetence we are seeing,” the MP explained.
The Bolgatanga Central legislator called on the government to appoint Mark Assibey Yeboah to replace Ken Ofori-Atta and described him as the best fit for the Finance Ministry.
“Ken was never in competition when it comes to competence. Everyone knows Mark Assibey Yeboah is an excellent brain. He has no business interest. Why such a person is sitting at home beats my imagination,” he lamented.
