Thieves bolt with patients’ phones as they raid health centre

Thieves have raided a health centre at Akrokerri near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

They stole mobile phones belonging to patients on admission at the facility.

According to the Medical Assistant of Akrokerri Health Centre, Comfort Owusu, the thieves broke into the facility and stole the mobile phones valued at Ghc7200.00.

Confirming the incident, police at Akrokerri said the medical assistant reported the case to them, and they have already begun investigating.

They assured that they would arrest the suspects to face justice.

Meanwhile, managers of the facility said they have heightened security to avert a similar occurrence.

This comes after thieves ransacked the residence of the Medical Superintendent of the Obuasi Government Hospital in March 2024.

The thieves stormed the residence during the day when the doctor was attending to patients at the hospital.

This was the third time such an incident had happened to doctors at the hospital.

Some valuables such as TV sets, laptops and other things, including an undisclosed amount of money, were stolen.

In a similar incident, a 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing from patients at the Koforidua Regional Hospital.

The suspect, Gabriel Oti Ankrah, wore a lab coat and paraded himself as a doctor to steal from unsuspecting victims.

Daily, issues of missing laptops, mobile phones and parts of air conditioners are reported to the hospital’s internal security, but the culprit was never found.

Luck, however, ran out for the unemployed suspect when ha doctor questioned himduring his usual morning stealing spree.

He was caught red-handed stealing a patient’s mobile phone.
