Former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Titus Glover, has spoken out against what he sees as the political targeting of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Speaking to journalists outside the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Glover claimed the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is misusing its authority.
Glover described Wontumi’s arrest as politically motivated and criticised the manner in which it was carried out.
According to him, the move was designed to intimidate the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but instead, it has strengthened the party’s unity and resolve.
“This is purely persecution. A kite cannot stay in the sky forever. If the NDC believes using power to intimidate us will break the NPP’s spirit, then they have completely lost the plot,” he said.
Glover also addressed the legal side of the situation. He stated that if Wontumi breached any laws, he should be taken to court. However, he argued that the issue involving Exim Bank is civil and doesn’t warrant what he called a “Rambo-style” arrest.
The former minister called on party members to remain focused and committed, saying this episode should galvanise their efforts as the party prepares for future elections.
He believes the attempt to weaken the NPP will ultimately fail.
