The tailor who died one hour to New Year as fire ravaged shop

A 74-year-old tailor has lost his life after a fire outbreak on New Year’s Eve at  Asamankese in the West Akim Municipality of the Eastern.

A daughter of the deceased, Mama Dede told TheGhanaReport.com that her father, Mr Gyamirah, “was in his shop when a fire ravaged through a number of wooden structures”.

She narrated that the family lives away from the shop and were called to the scene following the inferno.

She said the family arrived at the father’s shop at dawn only to discover that his body has been burnt to ashes after police, who had been called to the scene, managed to retrieve the remains.

The charred body was later sent to the Asamankese government hospital.

According to her, they were informed by residents that the fire which razed several adjoining shops started at about 11pm on December 31, 2019.

My Gyamirah, popularly known as ‘Old Boy’ was known to be a very good tailor who sometimes worked till very late at night before closing.

The cause of the fire has not been established but properties worth tens of thousands of Ghana Cedis are estimated to have been destroyed.
