The Minister of Roads and Highways Kwasi Amoako-Attah, has informed fuel tanker drivers that the bad roads which led to their indefinite sit-down strike are being constructed.
The Minister was at Tema where one of the roads was under construction leading to the depot site on Thursday, June 29, 2023. He assured the drivers that all the deplorable roads leading to Takoradi, Buipe, and Kumasi will also be fixed to facilitate their operations on the road.
He admitted that the construction work has been slow but will definitely be completed.
“The contractor is on site except that the work has been slow which is not what we all expected. I want to assure you that this road has not been abandoned by the government, we have awarded the contract and the contractor is already on site working,” he said.
Fuel tanker drivers declared a sit-down strike on Monday, June 26, 2023, due to bad roads leading to their various depots and affecting their operations.
The drivers had earlier accused the Road Minister of neglecting his duties.
“Our target is not the President but the Minister of Roads who has neglected his duties,” National Chairman of the Union of Tanker Drivers, George Nyaunu, noted in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on TV3.
The drivers have assured the government of resuming work after the roads are refurbished for the smooth operation of their activities.
