The People Who Took Us To Court Are Now Running Away – Dep Minority Leader

Supporters of the North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who thronged the court complex on Tuesday, February 21, are convinced the defamation case has already been won.

The supporters, mostly party members, clad in red and black massed up in front of the Accra High Court singing and cheering as the legislator came out after court proceedings.

They chanted the popular Revolution song “Revo Revo revolution has a long way to go but has come to stay. Cadres may go Cadres may come but the revolution has come to stay” as they beamed and hugged each other.

Their excitement was because the Secretary to the Board of the National Cathedral Secretariat, Rev Kusi Boateng, who had dragged the North Tongu MP to court over defamation failed to appear in court at the first hearing.

According to them, the plaintiff, Reverend Boateng had decided to flee the line of fire.

“We are here this morning to support our comrade and colleague MP Okudzeto Ablakwa who has dedicated his life to fighting for the right things to be done in this country. But, today, we did not see Mr Adu Gyamfi in court but rather the man who has been fighting for the right thing to be done.

“The people of Ghana are committed to supporting all the right things he is fighting for. The Minority in Parliament is strongly behind him. It’s obvious that the people who took us to court are running away from their own application and this is a victory for the people of Ghana,” the deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah said.

Adding his voice, the NDC General Secretary Fifii Kwetey reiterated that the party was solidly behind the North Tongu legislator.

“This is just to show that the NDC is fully behind our comrade and brother. The party is not deterred at all. We believe the cause he is fighting is the cause of truth and transparency,” he added.

Meanwhile, the substantive case has been adjourned sine die. This is to allow the plaintiff (Rev Boateng) to use the appropriate quarters to serve the defendant Mr. Ablakwa who has become an active campaigner on matters of public interest.
