Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged members of the New Patriotic Party to place party unity above personal ambition as the party prepares for its presidential primary.

He made the call on Thursday, January 22 2026, at the signing of a peace pact by the five presidential aspirants contesting the NPP flagbearer position.

Addressing party leaders, supporters, and the aspirants, Akufo-Addo said the enduring appeal of the NPP lies in its shared ideology and collective discipline rather than the ambitions of any single individual.

He noted that internal unity would play a decisive role in the party’s ability to remain competitive and credible ahead of the next general election.

According to him, protecting the party’s values during the primary is just as important as winning the contest itself.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin also cautioned the aspirants to conduct their campaigns responsibly.

He appealed to them and their supporters to rise above emotions and avoid actions that could damage the party’s image or cohesion at a critical time.

Chairman of the NPP Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, called on all contestants to commit to accepting the results of the January 31 2026, primary.

He said such a commitment would build confidence among delegates and ensure that members feel free to campaign and vote without fear of intimidation or division.

Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, further appealed for fairness and respect for party traditions.
