The Ghana Report Jobs Fair: Leaders Inspire Students To Embrace STEM Education
Thought leaders, experts, and academics encouraged Ghanaian students to utilize their skills and experiences to overcome challenges and build a better future during the Stemnovation event at The Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair.
The Stemnovation, which took place on the 13th day of the fair, brought together nine schools from the basic, second cycle, and tertiary levels to showcase various novel Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) projects.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, Associate Professor of Health Policy and Management at the University of Ghana, encouraged participants to rise above their immediate environment.
Citing the numerous challenges she faced in her childhood and her growth, she encouraged the students to use their personal experiences and skills regardless of their limitations to succeed.
“Don’t look down on yourself, regardless of the environment in which you are coming from. Use those in your environment and feel special. Let’s use whatever we have, and let’s make life better for ourselves,” she said.
In his spirited speech, Alphonsus Doamekpor, the Senior Systems and Process Engineer of ATG Europe, recounted his career with NASA, ESA, JASA, and CSA as an inspiration for the young generation.
He also mentioned his transition from submarine design to space engineering.
Using himself as an example, Mr. Doamekpor stated that he had achieved all these despite his humble beginnings in a coastal village in the Volta Region.
He further thanked The Ghana Report for the STEM exhibition and for creating a platform to address unemployment.
Ms. Rashida Saani, the CEO of The Ghana Report and I-ZAR Group, is the champion of The Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair aimed at solutions and job creation.
The two-week programme is being rolled out in partnership with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
Speaking on her behalf, Adib Saani, the Coordinator of The Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair, said The Ghana Report believes in the intrinsic value of the Ghanaian youth, hence the initiative.
He added that this stems from the CEO’s constant priority on youth empowerment and development.
Mr. Saani further encouraged participants to look around their community, identify social challenges, and find viable solutions to make wealth.
Kofi Baah Agyepong, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), while addressing the students, championed STEMFUTURE; a future where innovation, creativity, and problem-solving could shape the world.
He also pledged the YEA’s commitment to nurturing young talents.
“You the Gen Zs cannot fail us. You can’t fail us. Don’t fail yourselves and you can’t fail your generation,” he stressed.
Other guests who graced the occasion were HRM Vickylextar Okang-Sowah, Queen of Omanye Kingdom; Franklin Owusu Karikari, NEIP Director of Business; and Ibrahim Mustapha, the CEO of Me for Africa.
The expo, ongoing at the Independence Square, started on Thursday, September 19, and will end on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Recruitments are ongoing with government representatives, security agencies, business owners, and leading private companies actively seeking competent candidates to fill vacant positions.
