Ghana’s security services and private sector organisations have officially begun recruitment processes for thousands of job seekers at The Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair.

The two-week expo, in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), was officially opened on Thursday, September 19, 2024, with a massive attendance.

The two-week fair, taking place at the Independence Square and the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), is expected to end on Saturday, October 5, 2024. At the close of Day 3, on Saturday, September 21, over 4000 registrations had been completed for security services recruitment screening, general job shortlisting, and free training programmes on offer.

As the fair promised to provide jobs that cut across government institutions, leading private companies, and international organisations, recruiters, entrepreneurs, skills trainers, and talent hunters have started registration, interviews, and eligibility tests for qualified applicants.

Speaking to The Ghana Report, DCFO Jerry Harding-Bruce, Commanding Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), said the service registered over 500 young Ghanaians on the first day, with expectations of higher numbers as the fair progresses.

“We have a registration centre where those who want to register come. We have created an app so all those with smartphones only have to scan the barcode, and it opens the app for you and puts your details inside. “After this registration, we will verify their details and move on to the next stage,” he said.

DCFO Harding-Bruce added that the app was created for an efficient recruitment process. Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Michael Amoako-Atta, the Head of Public Affairs for the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), said the recruitment processes at The Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair had taken a different shape from their conventional processes.

He emphasised that the fair had offered an avenue for the service to engage directly with the public through the YEA and other collaborating agencies.

ACI Amoako-Atta added that “though it’s an open system, we still have our requirements,” and participants will go through the regular physical examinations. On his part, Superintendent Abdul Latif Adamu, the Chief PRO for Ghana Prisons Service, was optimistic about the outcome.

The Ghana Prisons Service has provided an online registration system to facilitate the process. He was optimistic about the outcome by the end of the completion of the needed recruitment guidelines of the Ghana Prisons Service.

Meanwhile, Alex Oppong, the Director in Charge of Capacity Building and Awareness Creation at the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), highlighted the shortage of four million cybersecurity professionals worldwide, including in Ghana.

For this reason, he said the CSA was at the job fair to recruit as many smart and intelligent young Ghanaians to fill various roles at the CSA and other cybersecurity institutions.

Mr. Oppong said they had received several CVs from job seekers and were taking them through on-the-spot security vetting. Approximately 90 applications had been received through their online processes, with 40 interviews completed. Various firms, such as Enterprise Insurance Limited, Hubtel, Hollard Life Assurance, Food Plan, and others, will be present.

The remaining 14 days of The Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurship Fair will see more organisations recruiting and offering employable skills to grow Ghana’s economy.

The YEA is targeting thousands of applicants for Rapid Skills Training, which begins on Monday, September 23. It will run concurrently with entrepreneurship skills training and a master programme for various persons already engaged in some artisanal professions.

Practical training and mentorship include CCTV installation, solar panel installation, fashion design, STEM, and more.

The fair, which aims to tackle unemployment, will provide business incubation platforms and financial support under a 3-tier funding scheme for research projects with a promising outcome.
