The first port of call was at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH), where its Medical Director, Dr Emmanuel Srofenyoh, expressed his gratitude for the items.

“As we all know one of the surest ways of preventing this infection is to keep our hands clean, and these Veronica buckets presented by The Ghana Report Foundation are well designed [for that].”

“There are other ones that we see and when you wash your hands, the water splashes, but this is different. It’s unique and very well designed. It is good,” he emphasised.

Dr Srofenyoh commended the Foundation for supporting the hospital in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.

He also urged the media not to relent on its effort in educating and informing the public about the precautionary measures the World Health Organisation kept hammering to keep the virus at bay.

With healthcare facilities, including the GARH, asking for more PPEs, he appealed to individuals and corporate organisations to continue to support the hospitals in the wake of the outbreak.

At the Ashaiman Polyclinic, the Head of the facility, Dr Mavis Oppong Addo, emphasised the need to stay safe and maintain the social distancing protocols advised by President Akufo-Addo.

“We know that keeping safe is one of the surest ways to protect and break the transmission, and once we are able to break the transmission, we can contain the virus,” she said.

Dr Addo called for a collective effort to fight the deadly pandemic, saying “the fight for success in this coronavirus battle is not ours alone, it’s for everybody so we need to fight together to win the battle.”

The Head of Ashaiman Polyclinic also thanked The Ghana Report Foundation for such a noble gesture.

The General Manager of theghanareport.com, Yayra Akpetey, who presented the items on behalf of the Managing Director of The Ghana Report Foundation, noted the need to support the hospitals in this dire time.

“It is our hope that the items donated will go a long way to serve its purpose. This would help stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

She also encouraged the general public to continue to wear their nose masks, as directed by the government, regardless of any discomfort it might bring.

“You might wear the masks and feel a minor discomfort because you can’t breathe well, but it is important to protect yourself from the deadly pandemic. If you think about the well-being of your family, then you need to wear a nose mask,” she cautioned.

She disclosed that the hospital was among institutions the Foundation had outlined to donate generously to in the wake of the deadly pandemic.

The two healthcare facilities were the second and third recipients of the Foundation’s donations.

The Ghana Report Foundation on April 21 presented GH₵ 70, 000 worth of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Ghana Journalists Association to be distributed across all media organisations.
