The Era of Record-a-thons: Ghanaians Attempting Guinness World Records
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has drawn the attention of the world for the past few days with her attempt to break and set the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
Afua, a Ghanaian journalist, put the spotlight on herself and the Guinness World Record project, singing from Christmas Eve until Friday, December 29, 2023, after an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes, while the current world record for the longest singing time for an individual is 105 hours, which was achieved by Sunil Waghmare (India) in Nagpur, India, from March 3–7, 2012.
While the world awaits the Guinness Book of World Records to review and conclude Asantewaa’s journey so far, The Ghana Report has taken the initiative to list some Ghanaians who are also attempting to get their names etched in the Guinness Book of World Records for their various achievements.
Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak
Chef Faila commenced her journey toward the Guinness Book of Records on January 1, 2024, in Tamale to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking period by an individual and set a new record.
The current record holder for the longest cooking by an individual in the GWR is Alan Fisher, an Irish chef who cooked for 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds in November 2023.
So far, Ghanaian chef Faila has been cooking for 90 hours.
Ace Liam
Guinness World Records has given the green light to a one-year-old Ghanaian art prodigy, Ace-Liam, who is attempting to shatter the existing record as the Youngest Male Artist.
The ambitious toddler, who began painting at the tender age of six months, is set to make history by becoming the youngest male artist globally. The current record holder, Dante Lamb, achieved the feat at the age of three in 2003.
A special fine art exhibition started on Friday, December 15, at the Museum of Science and Technology, where Ace-Liam is still showcasing his artistic talents in a bid to secure the coveted Guinness World Record title.
The exhibition, running from December 15 to January 21, 2024, promises to be a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts and supporters to witness the extraordinary talent of this one-year-old artist.
Dela Gomey
Ghanaian nurse and makeup artist Dela Gomey is gearing up to attempt the Guinness World Record for the most lipstick applications in 30 seconds, set to take place on January 6, 2024, in Accra.
The current record for this feat stands at a remarkable 4 applications in 30 seconds, achieved by renowned Chinese makeup artist and influencer Li Jiaqi in 2018. While Li’s attempt took place during a live webcast, Gomey’s will be held at a yet-to-be-confirmed venue in the Greater Accra Region, with the promise of an electrifying atmosphere for spectators.
Adu Safowaah
The Guinness World Records have permitted Ghanaian media personality Adu Safowaah to embark on a speech-a-thon from the 9th to the 14th of February, 2023.
She is embarking on the longest speech marathon by an individual.
According to the Guinness World Records, the longest speech marathon is 90 hours and 2 minutes, achieved by Ananta Ram KC (Nepal) in Kathmandu, Nepal, from August 27 to 31, 2018.
Isaac Amoako
Guinness World Records has also confirmed Ghana’s Isaac Amoako to read for six days nonstop.
Isaac Amoako shared the elation of receiving the confirmation by email, marking one of the proudest moments of his life.
The University of Education (Winneba) graduate, currently unemployed, aspires to break the reading-aloud marathon record, a dream that has fueled his passion for reading.
Mawuena Benedictus
Mawuena Benedictus is also attempting the longest marathon by reading aloud on January 20, 2024.
