At the state funeral held in Accra on Friday, August 15, the wife of the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, delivered a moving tribute that captured the hearts of many.

Her message was simple yet deeply emotional: “Kofi B, thank you for loving me.”

Mrs Abena Rita Omane Boamah’s tribute, read on her behalf at a mass the day before at Christ the King Parish, painted a vivid picture of a love story that began on a Medical School bus.

Though she wasn’t a medical student, fate brought them together, and their bond quickly blossomed into a lifelong partnership.

She recalled their cherished night walks to buy kenkey and fish, a ritual that became their hallmark. “You were truly God-sent,” she wrote, describing her husband as a devoted father who made time for their children despite his demanding roles in medicine and politics.

Dr Omane Boamah tragically lost his life in a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash on August 6 at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

He was en route to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Community and Cooperative Mining Programme. Seven others also perished in the accident, including government officials and crew members.

In her tribute, Mrs Omane Boamah expressed her grief and strength, promising to care for their children and his mother with God’s help.
