TEWU Gives FWSC August 7 ultimatum to complete allowance payment negotiations

Source The Ghana Report

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) has given the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) up to August 7, 2023, to complete the negotiation for the payment of Continuous Professional and Skills Development Allowance to Non-Teaching Staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

In a press statement, TEWU requested that the FWSC makes payment of the allowances by November 2023 after the negotiation deadline.

TEWU said leadership should not be blamed for any aggressive action it may take if FWSC fails to complete the negotiation process to pay the allowances by August 7, 2023.

“…if the Commission fails to complete the negotiation by August 7 2023, the leadership of the Union should not be blamed for any action that may be taken by aggrieved members of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union of TUC(GH),” the release stated.

TEWU expressed disappointment at how FWSC handled the negotiation on the payment of Continuous Professional and Skills Development Allowance.

The last time teaching counterparts in the Ghana Education Service received their Continuous Professional and Skills Development Allowance was in November 2020, after the Minister of Education had announced some months earlier that the allowance had been approved by the government for both teaching and non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service.

It will be recalled that the union, on January 5, 2022, declared a strike over the delay in the payment of the Continuous Professional and Skills Development Allowance after several efforts to get the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to meet their demand.
