Tesano Collation Centre chaos a disgrace to Ghana’s Democracy – Frank Davies
Frank Davies, Chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has condemned the chaos that unfolded at the Tesano Police Training School during the collation of parliamentary election results, describing it a “complete disgrace to democracy.”
The incident occurred during the collation of results for the OkaiKwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Dome Kwabenya constituencies, where supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reportedly overwhelmed police and disrupted the process.
According to Mr. Davies, the situation escalated to the point where NDC sympathisers gained control of the collation centre, even seizing the keys to the room.
In an interview, Mr. Davies recounted his experience on December 9, describing the atmosphere as “scary” and chaotic.
He credited his safety to sheer providence and the intervention of NDC’s Peter Boamah Otukunor.
He expressed deep concern over the inability of law enforcement to maintain order, warning that such incidents undermine the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.
“This was a disgrace to our democracy. At a point, NDC sympathisers had virtually overpowered the police, taking control of the process.
It was a test of the resilience of our democratic system,” he stated.
Mr. Davies called on stakeholders, including the media and political parties, to address these lapses and ensure that similar incidents are prevented in future elections.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening security measures and preserving order to protect the credibility of Ghana’s democratic process.
