The Tema Traditional Council(TTC) has noted that residents and institutions located within the Tema enclave are exempt from the restrictions laid down by the Ga Traditional Council(GTC) for the burial of the late Ga Manye Naa Deidei Omaedru III.

A statement signed and issued to all residents and institutions in Tema by the Mankralo/AG. President Nii Adjetey Agbo II on October 26, highlighted that “Tema is a separate and autonomous Traditional Area with its own Traditional Council and that the jurisdiction of the GTC does not extend to the Tema Traditional Area which spans from various Tema communities to Saasabi, near Dodowa”.

The Ga Traditional Council(GTC) on October 10, in a press release, directed all shops and offices in the Central Business District of Accra to be closed on Saturday, October 28, 2023, to make way for the final funeral rights of the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III.

Other mini markets and shops at homes within the capital were also required to be locked on the said date to pay homage to the late Paramount Queenmother of the Ga State.

However, pharmacy shops and business owners selling Ga Kenkey and fish are permitted to sell on Saturday, October 28, 2023.

The council announced that from October 25 to October 29, there will be solemnity in the traditional jurisdiction while the Queen is laid in state before her final departure.

The council, through the funeral planning committee, also said all markets in Accra would be draped in the traditional funeral colours of red and black.

Meanwhile, the Tema Traditional Council, TTC, has shown great interest in cooperating with the Ga Traditional Council, GTC, to give the late Queenmother a befitting burial as residents and business owners are being urged to go about their normal activities.

“While we at the TTC will join the GTC to mourn the Ga Manye, we are calling on all residents and institutions to go about their planned activities within the Traditional Area and not panic”, the statement added.
