Samuel Nartey George, the Minister nominee for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, has warned that Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) who fail to meet the required quality standards will face sanctions, including fines.

During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on January 30, he emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring that MNOs provide reliable and efficient services to the public.

While acknowledging the challenges operators face, Mr. George assured that the government would support MNOs in upgrading their infrastructure.

However, he made it clear that support would not come at the cost of allowing substandard service delivery.

He stated, “I will not hesitate to impose a fine when MNOs fail to meet the required service standards, but we will also support them in improving.”

Mr. George’s statement reflects a strong stance on accountability, ensuring that telecommunications companies are held responsible for their service quality.

His remarks also highlighted the importance of fostering technological innovation and advancing the digital sector in Ghana.

This commitment is crucial, as the telecommunications industry plays a vital role in Ghana’s economic development and digital transformation.

With millions of Ghanaians relying on mobile services for communication, banking, and education, ensuring consistent, high-quality services is essential for national growth.

Mr. George’s approach promises to bring both accountability and support to the sector.
