Techiman South: Court orders EC to collate results from 147 polling stations
The High Court in Accra has directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to collate results from 147 outstanding polling stations in the Techiman South Constituency and declare the final outcome through its Returning Officer.
This ruling, delivered on Saturday, January 4, 2025, comes after the court concluded that the declaration of results in the constituency was made without collating all polling station results.
So far, only 135 out of 282 polling stations in the constituency have been tallied.
Presiding judge, Justice Forson Baah Agyapong, emphasized that the failure to include results from all polling stations undermined the credibility of the declaration process. As such, the court instructed the EC to complete the collation process and announce the results by Monday, January 6, 2025.
The court further ordered the Inspector General of Police to deploy armed security personnel to ensure a smooth and secure collation exercise.
Justice Agyapong stressed the importance of transparency and fairness in electoral processes, stating that every vote must be accounted for to uphold the principles of democracy.
This decision has reignited public interest in the Techiman South Constituency, where the incomplete declaration had sparked tensions following the December 7 general elections.
The EC is now expected to conclude the collation exercise promptly, paving the way for the final declaration of results in a constituency that has remained a focal point of electoral disputes.
