Teacher’s nightmare: Robbed at gunpoint, blackmailed and threatened

A teacher’s worst fears were realized when she was robbed at gunpoint by two students on July 12, 2024.

The duo, who claimed to be level 200 students of the University of Ghana also downloaded her nude photos and threatened to release them online.

The incident occurred on July 12, 2024, when the teacher, whose name has been withheld, was sitting in front of her home in Mempeasem, Accra, with her friend.

A white Toyota Corolla Spider approached them, and Stanley, one of the suspects who is still at large, pulled out a pistol and robbed them of an iPhone XR and an iPhone 6.

But that was not the end of the ordeal.

The accused also transferred GH₵175 from the teacher’s mobile money account and gained access to her Instagram account, downloading her nude photos.

The teacher received a chilling call from one of the accused persons, Joshua Kwabena Nyador, who claimed to be a blogger and threatened to release her nude videos on social media unless she paid GH₵5,000.

The teacher was left shaken and traumatized by the experience.

The police were eventually notified, and Nyador was arrested at his hideout in Madina Zongo Junction on August 17, 2024.

In his caution statement, he admitted to the crime and disclosed that his schoolmates (Ayekple, Afadolo and Stanley) had sent him a pistol and phones to facilitate the robbery.

Nyador’s accomplice, Wisdom Ayekple, denied taking part in the robbery in his caution statement.

The two accused have since been charged with robbery and conspiracy to rob in the Dansoman Circuit Court.

They have pleaded not guilty to the charges and have been admitted to bail in the sum of GH₵1 million with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.

The court has adjourned the matter to November 25, 2024.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to trace and arrest the other accomplices who are still at large.
