Teachers In Gov’t Bungalows To Pay 10% Of Their Salaries As Rent – GES
Teachers and other employees in Senior High Schools (SHSs) who are residing in government housing facilities are to begin paying rent from March 1, 2022.
The Western Regional Education Director, Felicia Agyeibea Okai in a statement said that the people who live in the bungalows would have to pay a ten percent tax on their base salary for using the facilities.
This is in line with instructions from the Ministry of Finance, she claims, requiring all workers living in the bungalows to pay rent equivalent to 10 percent of their basic income.
“In line with the efforts to streamline the anomalies with regards to the payment of rents for occupying schools or government bungalows, I wish to draw your attention to Ministry of Finance circular No. 133385/05/06NTR CAGD of 15th May, 2006 requires that occupants of government bungalows are expected to pay 10% of their basic salaries as rent.
“I therefore write to inform you that with effect from 1st March 2022, all Teachers/Staff occupying School/Government bungalows are to pay 10% of their basic salary,” said the Western Regional Education Director.
To prevent audit service concerns, the letter was purportedly sent to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education and the heads of all Senior High Schools in the area.
