The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) is calling on the government to release funds to pay their delayed allowances.
A statement by TTAG said that despite an announcement by the government on the release of some GH¢241 million for payment of the allowances, their members were yet to receive their funds.
According to TTAG, the delay is causing hardships to trainees across the 46 education colleges.
“The teacher trainee allowance serves as a vital lifeline, enabling trainees to meet their basic needs and alleviate the financial burden of tuition,” the statement said.
The statement added that their patience was waning as they could no longer endure the distress and uncertainty.
“We have been patient on this issue since the start of the academic year in January 2023 (5 months), but we cannot guarantee it if the funds are not released immediately.
“We implore the authorities to urgently address the matter and ensure prompt and seamless disbursement of the allowances,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, they have stressed their commitment to working with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission(GTEC) and the government to ensure a peaceful academic environment for teaching and learning in the colleges of education.
