A student of the Asuoso Senior High School at Offinso in the Ashanti Region has stabbed his teacher in the left eye.
A confrontation ensued between the two after the teacher, Ishmael Famous, asked the loitering student to return to his classroom.
He then stabbed Famous, causing him to lose his eye.
According to the General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Musah, this has caused a permanent impairment to the teacher who may have to quit the profession.
He lamented over the attempt by some people in the area to drop the case.
He said the teacher had lost his left eye completely and that for the rest of his life, he would be using one eye.
“Looking at the profession, you need your eyes to work with.

“Who is going to take care of his medical bills and all those things, who will do that?” he angrily questioned.
GNAT is therefore demanding justice for the teacher.
The group is also demanding Workmen’s Compensation for losing his eye while performing his lawful duty.
“The law demands that if somebody is working in his line of duty, and something happens to him, the law provides that he should be compensated.
“The law gives you what we call the Workmen’s Compensation,” he added.
The group has warned that the failure of duty bearers to take swift action on the matter would compel teachers to withdraw their services after the Christmas break.
