A devastating collision between a taxi and a trailer on the Techiman-Kintampo highway has resulted in the deaths of two individuals, a taxi driver and his regular passenger.

The accident occurred on Thursday (September 5, 2024) afternoon between Amoma Nkwanta and Pramposo, when the taxi, travelling from Techiman to Kintampo, attempted to give way to the trailer due to poor road conditions.

According to eyewitnesses, a construction tipper truck failed to slow down, striking the taxi from behind and forcing it into the oncoming trailer.

The impact was severe, causing the deaths of the driver, known as Ogyam, and his female passenger.

Their bodies were severely damaged, making identification challenging.

The rescue operation, involving the Fire Service, Police, and road safety officials, took over two hours to complete. Tragically, another trailer crashed into a vehicle during the operation, injuring several passengers.

DO III Asah Manu, an officer from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), confirmed the incident.

This accident comes after a frightening accident occurred on the Tarkwa-Takoradi highway involving the technical team of Ghana’s Black Stars.

Fortunately, the team members escaped unharmed but were taken to the hospital for precautionary checks.

The cause of the accident is currently unknown, but videos from the scene show a disturbing image.

In one of the videos, John Paintsil, second assistant coach, can be heard saying, “This is not going to happen to us, never. We are hurt; it’s later we will know that we are hurt. I feel some pain.”

The team was in Tarkwa for the Champions of Champions match between Samatex and Nsoatreman FC at the TnA park.

Those involved in the accident include the head Coach Otto Addo, second assistant coach John Paintsil and goalkeeper’s trainer Fatawu Dauda.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is likely to follow.
